Amy Rice Letterpress/Sign Press Contest (of sorts)

new print rack

Artist Amy Rice bought a 1940’s Line-o-Scribe Letterpress/ Sign Press at an antique sale last fall. She also bought a bunch of antique atlases for art making about the same time and it turned out they were a great size and weight for the press. The idea of song lyrics about place/ travel/ journey on maps was exciting for her because it fits in thematically with her other work, and because she loves music.

Here's where you come in (and the contest): Amy has created a certain criteria for her song lyric map prints which you can read here. If you can suggest to her a song lyric to go with this series and she uses it, she will mail you one of the prints for free on the state or country of your choosing. You may leave your suggestion at her flickr or her Amy Rice Art Face Book Page: www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Amy-Rice- Click here for more info.

New Shop Alert: Amy Rice

More good news on the "shop front".  One of my favourite artists, Amy Rice has taken the giant leap, quit her day job and has officially joined the self-employed artist world. Along with that she has also opened up an etsy shop and has a new site too! Amy is a truly inspiring artist who has been working for the past ten years as an Art Director for a local Minneapolis Community Mental Health office helping create a community, making art and stigma busting. Her work is very thoughtful and intelligent and I couldn't be happier for her. See more of Amy on Poppytalk here (lots of goodies, including free Valentines) and at her new spaces on the internet:

Inspiration: Video Interview with Amy Rice

This is a little gem. An inspiring video interview with one of my favourite artists, Amy Rice.

Amy sent this little email gift to me today and I just had to share. There are several aspects that she (and now, I) thought you would really appreciate; a description and demonstration of a Gocco printer, terrariums, hand-cut stencils, antique paper collecting as well as awesome interior shots of her working studio in the California Building , a former grain mill turned studio building for working artists in NE Minneapolis.

Amy was featured in the latest episode of Minnesota Original: a new weekly series produced by Twin Cities Public Television.
