There's No Place Like Here: Hindsvik

There's No Place Like Here: Hindsvik from Etsy on Vimeo.

Yesterday Etsy posted a feature on Poppytalk contributors, Daniel and Valeria of Hindsvik in their scandinavian/japanese styled home in Port Colborn,Ontario. It's a lovely mini peek into their life where they love to renovate their quaint home along with running their vintage home decor and furniture business. Along with the success of their business, sadly their contributions have ended here but we do look forward to watching their lives from their own blog at hindsvik.com. Filmmaker Pascal Perich. Hindsvik: Scandinavian Interiors

Contributor post by Hindsvik.

Hello Again! It's Daniel and Valeria here from Hindsvik Shop! Last week we did a post on our personal blog of some of our favorite Scandinavian design blogs. We wanted to share some of the beautiful interiors with you here as well!

We love the classic black and white geometric print in this photo. Geometric prints are an easy way of adding something modern, yet interesting to a room.

An industrial and rustic interior also reminds us of Scandinavian design, especially when paired with white flooring and white plank walls. It has a real cosy northern cottage feel.

We love this DIY tree branch coat hanger! An open closet never looked so good!

More plank walls and a black and white bedroom.

DIY patchwork pillows from the Weekday Carnival blog.

We love this clean and simple kids room! The mismatched woods and bright colors really make the space.
Homemade colorful flags and matching desk accessories.

A beautiful Scandinavian kitchen. Colorful kitchenware is a must for a Scandinavian space.

We would love to have this great collection of red and yellow mugs! They would fit beautifully with just about any decor!
Hope you liked our Scandinavian Interior round-up and we'll see you next week with more!

Yeta Mimetic Eco-Hut by Flavio Galvagni

Hi There! It's Daniel and Valeria from Hindsvik Shop here to share this beautiful eco-hut from Lab Zero. The hut is made entirely of wood with tree trunks along the exterior that resemble alpine forests.

The small structure can be used as a "room with a view," a mini research lab, a mountain lodge, a meditation space or even temporary shelters in disaster-sticken areas.

The very first version features a mini kitchen plus bathroom and shower. The shell is insulated and the glass has a double-thick layer for easy use in the winter.

We love the raw wooden logs on the outside of the building and the open-concept space!

What a great little mountain lodge or summer cabin retreat this would make!

Hindsvik: How To Use Vintage Crates

Hi There! It's Daniel and Valeria from Hindsvik Shop here to show you some of our favorite ways of using vintage crates in your home!

Book storage is a classic example. You can either use crates on the floor or wall mount them for some visual appeal. And they look even better in multiples!

Plants and greenery also look great alongside old woods.

Sometimes you can find really large vintage crates that can double as a coffee or side table. We really love the slatted wood and character on this one!

Some can be good for displaying your collections and small home decor items.

Here we have our collection of vintage lobster buoys.

On the rare occasion you can find crates and use them for their original purpose like this tool rental box which is the perfect size for drill bits and other tools.

Vintage tool crate used for shoe last storage.

Another favorite idea of ours is using vintage crates for storing kitchen items. Anything from a blender or some fruit, I'm sure you'll find a vintage crate to suit your needs!

Hope you've enjoyed our vintage crate round-up and we'll see you next week with more!

Hindsvik: Dressed Up Furniture by KAMKAM

Guest Post by Hindsvik

This beautiful collection of felt-covered furniture was made by designers KAMKAM from Seoul, Korea.

Each piece can be fastened using buttons, belts and zippers and is perfect for hidden storage.

The collection is called "Dressed Up Furniture" and includes benches, cabinets and stools. The collection is named after the North Pole monster "Cham" - a character from a Korean novel.

We love the bright and contrasting colors of the collection!

Check out more designs from KAMKAM here!

Hindsvik: RGB Wallpaper by Carnovsky

Milanese collective Carnovsky presented an exhibition of wallpapers in the Johannsen Gallery in Berlin which changed appearance under different lighting conditions.

The wallpapers, called RGB, feature superimposed imagery printed in red, green, yellow and blue.

The separate layers are revealed when illuminated by different colored lights.

Our favorite patterns are the different animals scenes created by the lighting.

The wallpaper was originally created for the Italian brand Jannelli & Volpi earlier this year. The exhibition continues until February 10, 2011.

Hindsvik: Neorustica by Jahara Studio

Contributor post by Hindsvik

Brazilian Designer Brunno Jahara of Jahara Studio created this beautiful collection of furniture made of brightly colored discarded scrap wood strips.

The collection is an homage to Brazil's rural traditions and culture and each piece is named after a Rio de Janeiro shanty town.

The bright colors and scrap wood symbolizes the living conditions of people that moved from the countryside into big cities searching for a better life (i.e improvised homes made of scrap.)

The collections also includes tables, desks and benches painted white with slivers of raw wood showing through. Each piece is finished with a laminate made of recycled PET bottles and non toxic paint.

We love the contrast of the old dark wood with the rustic tops in these storage cabinets.

Jahara teamed up with a furniture factory which specializes in working with wood leftover from construction and demolition sites. The factory is now launching NDT BRAZIL, an international brand committed to working in a sustainable and design-concious way.

Hope you liked this beautiful collection of furniture and we'll see you next week with more!
