Publish Your Photography Book

I was recently sent the book, Publish Your Photography Book from Princeton Architectural Press and immediately thought of many photographers I know out there who I'd love to see their works in a book.

"Publish Your Photography Book demystifies the process of producing and publishing a book of photographs. Industry insiders Darius D. Himes and Mary Virginia Swanson survey the current landscape of photography book publishing and point out the many avenues to pursue and pitfalls to avoid. This expert guide is organized in six sections covering the rich history of the photo book; an overview of the publishing industry; an intimate look at the process of making a book; a close review of how to market a photo book; a section on case studies, built around discussions and interviews with published photographers; and a final section presenting a wealth of resources and information to aid in the understanding of the publishing world. Publish Your Photography Book also includes a number of additional interviews and contributions from industry professionals, including artists, publishers, designers, packagers, editors, and other industry experts who openly share their publishing experiences."

Press Here

I received a few books from Raincoast Books recently to review and was completely enamoured by this simple yet powerful little book by Paris-based author/illustrator, HervĂ© Tullet . Called PRESS HERE, the book asks the reader to poke it, shake it, and even blow along it's edges, and in turn each page transforms the scattering of coloured dots into a fun visual narrative. Simple enough to captivate a two-year old, yet brilliant enough to garner the attention of an adult, this book will bring some magic into anyone's day who reads it.  Available through Amazon.ca in Canada and in the U.S. through and Chronicle Books.

Sunday Reading: Print Workshop

I'm actually really excited about this new book I just received in the mail, Print Workshop by Christine Schmidt of Yellow Owl Workshop (published by Potter Craft)! I briefly mentioned it last month, and now the release date is oh so very close! If you know anyone that loves stuff like this, this is by far one of the coolest DIY books out there for hand-printing techniques to create unique original projects! Christine makes it pretty easy to make some pretty rad things, like the freehand corkboard (above), water-slide decal jars or veggie print picnic set (below) to name just a few. It even includes templates from Yellow Owl Workshop, if you want their unique look to make things with. The book is available December 28th (through Amazon), and if I was buying this for someone for the holidays, I'd just print out a copy of the cover and place in a card and say - "hey, I've pre-ordered this for you!" I would love this as a present, and I'm sure I'm not going to be alone! Click here to find out more!
