European Allure...

There's no denying that Europeans are light years ahead of us when it comes to fashion and interior design. They just seem to have an incredible eye for detail, quality and style. When it comes to decor, many interior designers try to replicate Europe's old world charm here in America but the end result often falls short. While researching French and Italian decor online, I stumbled upon a spectacular home on the House Beautiful website.

Interior designer Cathy Kincaid used luscious fabrics, reclaimed wood furniture, antique accessories and a rich color palette in order to create a European-style home and I was flabbergasted by its authenticity... especially considering this house is in Scottsdale, Arizona!

The rustic architecture of the home obviously had a lot to do with the overall achievement of the look not to mention the terra cotta tiles, exposed beams and stone walls. If it weren't for the desert outside, I would've totally thought this house was in Tuscany.

Love, love, Love, love, Love, love, Looooooove this kitchen!!!!
Love the ceiling, the terra cotta tiles, the colorful backsplash, the island, the olive green cabinets, the stripped rugs, the antique pendant light fixtures...

Designer Staples: Topiaries...

Life is in the details, and so is design.

In fashion, when you put together an outfit, it's never complete until you've put on a killer pair of shoes, statement necklace or chunky bangles around your wrist. When it comes to interior design, the same concept applies. When creating a living room for example, you decide on the layout, furniture, area rug, lighting fixtures etc... But your room will not look or feel complete until you've incorporated "the little things" such as throw pillows, picture frames or decorative vases. Upon the countless hours I've spent browsing through beautiful design images, I've started to notice certain staples that all designers use time and time again. One of those key accessories is topiaries. Next time you feel like your room needs a little "Je ne sais quoi" perhaps a topiary will do the  trick!

Drum Pendants...

Drum Pendants are commonly found in kitchens and dining rooms. But because of their clean, simple and linear nature, these light fixtures are easy to integrate in just about any room of the house. Before installing your drum pendant, play around with the height. Depending on the look you want to achieve, you may want your drum shade to hang very low or high up next to the ceiling. Make sure to always consider sight lines so as to not obstruct any decorative elements on your walls.
