Rev it up with red

I think red is one of those colours that works whatever the season. It can look fresh and summery or warm and cosy. You can't beat its versatility.

Still needing a red fix? You can look at my earlier red posts here.

For those Aussies that have been following Homemade - yay Jason! Woohoo! I'm so pleased he won. I love his elegant timeless style, and he is such a sweet and relaxed person.

Best wishes,

Red accents in my home

Not that long ago I posted about touches of red, and said I'd put up some pictures of red accents in my own home, so here they are - there's just a few small touches.

This is my kitchen. It's all very beige (I've comtempated painting my kitchen cupboards white or black, but not anytime soon) so I've added a little red for zing - I have a variety of red tea towells I swap around, there's a vintage style set of scales (being used here to hold some tomatoes) and if you look carefully there's a red spatula and a bottle of organic tomato sauce (ok, I'm clutching at straws now).

This is my rusty iron loveseat in my teeny tiny backyard. Occasionally I will read out here in which case I take these cushions with me (they're not really made for the outdoors). I bought these in Sydney last time I was there. They don't really suit the style of my house (a little too feminine) but they look fine outside I think. Eventually my ugly colourbond fencing will be covered in star jasmine, but because of the severe water restrictions it is taking an age to grow. But still, when I bought my house the backyard was nothing but a mass of weeds and bare earth, so I'm quite happy with what I've been able to do with it so far, considering I'm a hopeless gardener. I wish I had taken a before picture.

And lastly, here's a picture of one of my white couches, with a red cushion tossed into the mix. I like the look of red against neutrals, including this neutral linen cushion. Beside this couch is a huge red vase-type thing I also bought in Sydney on another business trip. I spied it in the front window of a shop so I went inside for a better look. I told the lady I would love it but that it would be too difficult to cart back home to Adelaide. That's when she told me that it is made from bamboo and is as light as a feather. So I took it on the plane as hand luggage. The air hosties just about had a conniption, but I got it through so I was happy! I think almost everyone who loves decorating has a story about lugging things back on a place, and now you know mine! Got any stories of your own to share with me?

More touches of red

The love affair with red continues....

A bunch of flowers and a striped red rug to make a fabulous laundry even more fabulous.

I know I never said I'd have red in a bedroom, but for these two sweet bedrooms, I could make an exception

This picture below inspired me to buy some red patterned cusions (even though I don't ever do patterns normally - I'm more of a texture girl).

I love vintage signs, and this one is totally fabulous. Don't particularly like the rest of the room, but how great would it be to eat dinner with this lovely cow keeping you company?

I love the combination of red, pink and grey cushions in this living room below. And I want a red and white quilt exactly like this - something to snuggle up with in winter. Even the little boy is colour coordinated.

And finally, not a room but a 'vignette' from Australian Country Style. Simply gorgeous from a talented stylist named Geraldine Munoz - she always creates great looks.

Some other day I will pop up some pictures of my own touches of red around my house.

Tonight I even had a 'red' dinner. A summer salad of tomatoes, red onion, cucumber and hard italian biscuit bread, all doused in olive oil and red wine vinegar. Yum yum.
Now I must head back to watching Taggart - I'm waiting for one of those Glaswegian detectives to announce "there's been a muhrrrdah!"

A touch of red

I love all the neutrals. Give me vanilla, butterscotch, chocolate and cookies-and-cream any day. But every now and again a little bit of cherry, strawberry or boysenberry adds a little bit something extra. But for me, a little goes a long way. So here's some photos with just a dash of red to liven things up a bit.

These photos are all kitchen themed. I'd never put red in a bedroom or a bathroom - I like those rooms to be as calm and blissfully neutral as possible, but a communal room such as a kitchen, dining area or living room can all benefit from a bit of a red.

I can't tell you how much I love this kitchen. And the red Kitchenaid mixer - I so want it.

Nancy Fishelson's kitchen (again) with a bowl of tomatoes to brighten things up

Sublime vintage chair. I wonder where it came from? A French cafe perhaps?
