Contributor's Holiday Gift Guide Series: Everybody Likes Sandwiches

Contributor post by Jeannette of Everybody Likes Sandwiches

The holidays are rapidly approaching and I wanted to create a little gift guide for all those hungry homebodies out there! Are you someone who feels at home in the kitchen? Or know someone who does? Well, have I got a few lovelies for those on your list.

Splurge on this teal Kobenstyle pot which would look fabulous in any kitchen (especially mine).

This screenprinted carton of eggs tea towel from Hong Kong shop, little clouds, is simply the sweetest.

I pretty much am smitten with any print from sollinero's shop. This tea factory print is lovely (& it's on sale!)

Local Vancouver artist dahlhaus makes these incredible striped teapots. Modern, minimal and completely unfussy.

Every kitchen needs a cookie jar. A vintage modern one to store all your homemade snacks? Yes please.

Adorable letterpress recipe cards from igloopress are the prettiest way to keep all your favorite recipes close at hand.

I love the vintage charm found in this pretty plaid tea pot. It's available from Oklahoma's own bellaloulou and it will be sure to sweeten any vintage lover's day.

Need a reminder to eat your veggies? Do it in style with this cute grocery tote from bang bang you're thread.

One peek at MrPS's etsy shop has a bonefide kitchen lover like myself swooning. This veggie brekkie mug is a fun reminder to start your day off right. The other side of the mug says "coffee" which needs no reminder at all.

Oh mustaches! I certainly know a few beer drinkers that would make much use of this pint glass. Various 'stache styles and colours for your mustachio'd fella.

And finally, because no one needs more plastic bags in their life, comes this lovely kitchen cloth pack from My Favorite Dress. The small pack includes cloth produce bags, cloth napkins and knitted dish cloths - an ideal starter kit for anyone swearing off plastic waste for good.

Contributor's Holiday Gift Guide Series: Bookhou

1. shanna murray - it was hard to choose just one, but the elegance of this note card is something I would be happy to share with friends and family. she also sells them as box sets.
2. skinny laminx - I own several of heather's tea towels - her bold prints gives our kitchen a nice punch of colour - you can never have too many tea towels.
3.three potato four -these vintage-inspired containers have many uses - these containers would be great for pens, for flowers etc.
4. caroline swift - I have a real weakness for beautiful ceramics - these bone china translucent pieces would add a lovely sculptural quality to your home.
5. inleaf - I sometimes find it hard to use beautiful note books, but these are designed to insert a new one once your finished, allowing you to continue to enjoy the cover.
6. freshly printed - this duo from toronto is new to the textile design scene and I know we can expect more goodness from them.  their current range has a modern Canadiana feel and their eco approach to printing and fabric choice will be appreciated by all.
7. sandra juto - with the cold weather fast approaching - these wrist worms makes doing tasks easily without getting your hands cold, everyone should have a pair on hand.

Contributor's Holiday Gift Guide Series: Pinecone Camp

Ahh, it's Christmas shopping time. Janis here, from Pinecone Camp. I have to admit, it can cause slight stress for me as I usually go shopping with nothing in mind, to face massive crowds all doing the same thing. The shopping trip usually ends up in a hotel bar (which I thoroughly enjoy), with no shopping done whatsoever. When Jan asked if I could come up with a list of 10-12 gift ideas, I had to say yes. It's made me come up with a list of ideas for friends and family, and a bit of a wish list for me as well. I thank you Jan!

I'm a huge fan of Bison Pottery from Australia. Their colours are gorgeous, really beautiful shapes, and the price is right. They ship everywhere, fyi. I'll be in Melbourne for Christmas, so I plan on making a trip to Bison. This is my own vase, above, but check out their site for the wide range of colours and styles.

Rescued Paper Notebooks by Sukie are perfect for jotting down ideas, 'to-do' lists, doodling when you should be working, etc. They can also be found in Vancouver, at Orling and Wu. The image, above, was taken at Orling and Wu.

I have a bit of an obsession with Totem Poles, so I was pretty pleased to find these Totem Cups, by Rob Southcott, I believe.  They can be found in Vancouver at Old Faithful where I took this picture, and on line here.

Ok, I know. Here's another Totem find - Totem Pole cupcake molds by Kikkerland. I love baking, and I know a few others that do to. I really want to make a stack of Totem Pole cupcakes now.

Love these necklaces, by Becoming. I really do need to "believe in the future" more than I do. This would be the perfect gift for the jaded and cynical, on your shopping list. They can also be found at Walrus, here in Vancouver.

Hanging terrariums still have it. I found these ones here in Vancouver, again, at Old Faithful. Image found here.

Love the colours of these happy "o clock" watches, made in Italy. Great price at $39 and they come packaged in a reusable tin can. Found in Vancouver at Walrus and here.

Kate, at Tiny Warbler, makes these adorable stuffed creatures. The hippo is my favourite.

"Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk" is the name of David Sedaris' new book. Want it. His books have kept me laughing, when I should have been sleeping. His sister, Amy Sedaris, is pretty fantastic as well.

For a new baby I know. I found these cute mobiles, by Baby Jives at Poppytalk Handmade. So sweet, and it something that you'd hang onto long after the baby stage.

Plan Canada has some fantastic ideas for gifts. I've got a certain goat loving person in mind for this. A great cause.  You can help plant a mango tree in a school yard, give the gift of reading with a 'library in a box', and so many more gift ideas.

Last but not least, is a "symbolic adoption" at World Wildlife Fund. I've been thinking I might just order a couple of these. I love this idea.

That's my list. Hope you've found it helpful.  If you need a list of good hotel bars in Vancouver, just let me know. Happy shopping!

This vintage American Tourister would make an excellent camera bag.

Pinhole cameras are loads of fun. Especially this one from B&H Photo.

There's a sea of fantastic photography books out there but you really can't go wrong with The Art Of The American Snapshot.

I'm sort of in love with the Tokyo Dreamer Straps from Photojojo.

light leaks!

A gift subscription to Light Leaks magazine is money well spent.

This tee-shirt from Threadless is completely awesome.

This Double Shot camera from Photojojo is a split frame camera that takes twice as many shots as there are exposures. Hello dyptich! Also, it's crazy cute. I'll admit, I'm a sucker for the cute.

So there you have it. Eight solid gifts for the photography geek in your life. Or maybe that photography geek is you. In which case, you might want to forward this list along. Because a little hinting around never hurt anyone.

Happy holidays, folks!

Contributor's Holiday Gift Guide Series: Will Bryant

Today we're really excited to share with you the first of our Contributor's Holiday Gift Guide! It's fun to see what they all come up with, and our first, Will Bryant's is nothing but rad!

Contributor post by Will Bryant

Happy Holidays, folks! Here's my take on what you should be picking up for that special person in your life, most likely the man/brother/crazy uncle you're trying to find the perfect gift for.

I'm currently searching for a new pocket knife and came across this amazing Roose Bone Handle Knife this week. I love the story that comes with it as well.

This woven waxed twill Archival Clothing Rucksack would look sharp under the tree. You could wear it empty or fill it with your stuff!

Honestly, any print by Sonnenzimmer would make an amazing gift. I especially love this abstract poster for a Chicago art exhibition "Let there be Geo" that featured work from Jeff Canham, Maya Hayuk, Cody Hudson, and more.

From my days in Boy Scouts I developed an interest in Native American culture. Drinking from these ceramic Totem Cups would make any beverage better.

This leather stitchedPresent & Correct Homework Pencil Pocket is just what someone who is obsessed with pens and pencils needs. It also comes with schedule sheets to list your appointments! #organized

What better way to cope with spending too much money during the holidays than by looking at another person's Obsessive Consumption! Ha, this book by my dear friend Kate is filled with her personable line drawings that tell a story in full color.

My wife and I love blankets. This rad collaboration between Geoff McFetridge x Standard Blanket is the bees knees. Geoff is one of my all time favorite makers in the whole world. If you're in search of more blankets you should peek at the wonders created by Pendleton.

Antoine Dodson showing up in your stocking might seem strange, but this Hide Yo' Kids Mug would be a huge hit.

Andy Smith's "I Pretend to Work" print should be on any designer's list. It's available through the Soma Gallery.

Living in Texas you have to own cowboy boots, I just happen to own them as house slippers. I received a pair of Cowboy Kickers last year and have thoroughly enjoyed laughing at my feet every evening.

For additional gift ideas you should totally check out the guide by Svpply and the Official Clifton Burt 2010 Holiday Guide for the Male Humans in Your Life.

Holiday Inspiration: Succulents, Air Plants and Flora Grubb

I can never get enough of Flora Grubb. Everytime I visit their site, I'm always inspired and want one of each and everything they make. And as you can see from these pictures, this season they don't disappoint. Love the idea of a succulent wreath or air plant ornament don't you? And those pots, to die for.
