I've had a very long week at work and I am thrilled that the weekend has finally made its way back into my life. I desperately need to recharge my batteries and am looking forward to nothing but rest and relaxation for the next 48 hours... I'm giddy at the thought of lounging in my back yard, soaking in the sun and reading the latest issue of Style at Home magazine. As I embark on this restful journey, I would like to leave you with images from "A Beach Cottage" that, in my opinion, represent serenity, peace, tranquility and a hint of coastal laziness...
This is one of the earthiest beach houses I have ever seen and I love it! This space has so many natural elements that it almost feels as though a big tidal wave came in from the ocean and swept everything into place. As in fashion, the spaces we live in are an outside manifestation of how we feel inside. When I glanced over the pictures of this Santa Barbara home, it became obvious to me that the owners are deeply connected to nature and want to feel that connection in their everyday lives. The enormous windows with no curtains are like giant canvases that allow the majestic backdrop to act as a painting. The limestone coffee table, terra cotta doves, eroded stone spheres, driftwood accents, faux-stalactite side tables, natural linens and earthy color palette make the inside of this home feel like a romantic hommage to the coastal nature that surrounds it. I can't imagine how incredible it must be to sit on that back porch with nothing but the sound of waves crashing in the background....
Okay, so I have way too many favorite houses but this one is my favorite favorite! It's so sweet I'm getting cavities just looking at it. First and foremost, I must acknowledge the brilliance that isMunger Interiors. This Houston-based interior design firm consists of two unspeakably talented sisters; Amy and Elizabeth Munger. If you like this house as much as I do, I strongly suggest you check out the rest of their portfolio here, all the spaces they've designed are just as spectacular as this one. What I love most about this Texan waterfront home is the contrast between the dark floors and the quiet neutrals. I also love the use of texture and how beautifully it has been carried throughout the house. A few personal highlights: the sisal carpet, wicker chairsandreclaimed wood furniture from Custom Furniture L.A.The outdoor area is also a showstopper with colorful bursts of turquoise accents against a wicker and teak backdrop. I'm not sure where the towels and monogrammed pales displayed in the entrance were purchased, but I thought that was such a lovely and personal way to acknowledge the four children who live in this dreamy beach house. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then I really need to stop writing and simply share the following 12,000 words with you. Enjoy.
