Hula Seventy: Last Minute Gift Wrap Inspiration

I don't know about you but I love to wrap presents. Like, LOVE love. Most years, I start a week or two in advance and wrap a few presents each night so I don't feel rushed. I like to spend time on the details. But this year, our Christmas plans took an unexpected turn and guess what? I have not wrapped the first present. I don't even have access to all my usual supplies-- my army of pretty papers, tapes, tags and twine. But I haven't given up. Of course, I will probably be singing a different tune come three a.m. Christmas morning but I am not giving up, not yet. I believe there's still time for a little extra sweetness in the gift wrap department and so I went looking for last minute inspiration. I went looking for simple and fun and that's exactly what I found. So if you've got a mountain of presents to wrap like I do, do not despair. There's hope, people:

A little brown paper, a few bits of found ephemera and a little white string. Love.

And speaking of found ephemera, I am a big fan. Newspapers, magazine pages, old maps. I am never tired of this idea. Add a bright-colored ribbon and voila.

Paper snowflakes make everything look pretty. Plus, all you need is a pair of scissors and a piece of paper.

If you don't have time to cut out paper snowflakes (and okay, I probably won't), paper doilies are the next best thing. Everybody knows that. Talk about instant pretty.

I know. You're looking at these bows and you're laughing. You're thinking I'm out of touch with reality. But I promise, these are simply cut-up store-bought bows. A snip here, a snip there, that's it. Check the directions and go ahead. Buy that big bag of ready made stick-on bows. I bet you won't be sorry. I know I won't be.

You might as well know-- I'm totally on a yarn kick this year.

I spent five bucks at the local big box store yesterday and came home with more bright-colored yarn than I know what to do with. My personal goal is to use it all. We'll see what happens.

Shipping tags are my favorite. Because shipping tags are like tiny blank canvases that just beg for bits of things. A decorated shipping tag will always bring the happy.

And now I must get to work. A mountain of unwrapped gifts awaits me. Happiest of holidays, folks! See you in 2011!
