Rose Cumming: Designer Wallpaper!

Rose Cumming was born on an Australian sheep ranch in the early 1900's. She made her way to New York and settled there as she was unable to travel on to England due to WW I. She became popular in New York society and asked her friend with Vanity Fair, what to do about a job. He suggested she become a decorator and she replied, "Perhaps I would, but first tell me what it is."
She quickly learned and opened a shop on Park Avenue which became her office and retail shop. She changed the way people looked at design as she set up her shop as room sets and displayed her best items in the windows. She mixed the styles in ways that felt like random and used her natural strength to become a great colorist. She felt that fabrics should show all the beautiful colors that were in nature and she designed and printed fabrics in her own bold colors. This helped to catapult her as a designer for the stars. In 1968, Rose passed away and the business was carried on by her sister. Recently the business was sold to Dessin Fournir, a trade company where purchases can be made through your designer.
